Wedding Wednesday – Engagement Pictures
From the beginning, I have always known that I didn’t want to spend a fortune on an engagement picture session. I figured that money could be used towards something on the big day instead. I am not dogging anyone out for their choice on an engagement session, these are just my own personal thoughts in regards to planning a wedding on a budget.
I knew that we needed some kind of pictures taken to put on our Save The Dates. And I already own a Canon Rebel XSi (that I inherited from my mom) and I edit all of my own pictures on Lightroom. Since we already had a camera, and editing capabilities, now we just needed a photographer. I knew my future sister (in law) Emma had a good eye for photos so I asked if she would be willing to photograph our “session”.
I have always had the idea to get photos taken in front of the Angel Oak tree in Charleston. And I thought it would make a fun day trip for the three of us, however it ended up not just being the three of us. We invited Bennett’s brother Sam and his girlfriend Paige, their cousin Harrison and his girlfriend Sydney. So we had a packed car and a full day ahead of us.
The trip down there was not bad, we joked around, talked and just had a good time. When we arrived to the Angel Oak tree, I am not going to lie I was a bit underwhelmed. My initial thought (and I’m sure everyone else) was “we just drove 3.5 hours for THIS?”. But I decided to be positive and make the most out of our trip. The weather was perfect and so was the lighting. Emma clicked away while Bennett and I awkwardly posed in front of everyone. Paige and Sydney were the best glam squad fixing my hair and my dress after I got into position. It was actually pretty fun, and if you know me you know I love taking pictures so I was totally in my element 😉
We ended up getting some really gorgeous pictures. Emma definitely has an eye for what looks good in photos and I was pleasantly happy with how they turned out! The photo session took less than 30 minutes and then we were out of there. We decided to go to lunch together and we were able to drive over the infamous bridge in Charleston and ate at this really cool place right on the water. The ride home was slightly less enthusiastic, we were all tired and kind of grumpy and ready to get home! I am super thankful that I have these kind of people in my life that will go on a day trip to Charleston just for us to get engagement pictures done. Despite the attitudes displayed throughout the day and the girls tendency to get “hangry”, I think we had a really fun time!
I uploaded all of the photos onto my laptop when we got home and edited some of the lighting in the photos. So cost for the pictures and editing was $0. Of course we spent money for gas and food but that was all just a part of the experience. This post is a lot different from my previous Wedding Wednesday post which you can read here. Once I stopped stressing myself out over little things, I began to truly enjoy this season of being engaged. The planning has been SO much fun and I am excited to fill y’all in on whats next 😊
